Do you like apple pies?
These are classics. They immediately bring you back to childhood, parent’s house and remind of family traditions. I bet your mom or grandma have their special recipe for the apple pie.
The pie we are making today is a fantastic combination of toffee and apples. It’s easy to make, it’s beautiful and delicious! You’ll be surprised how good it is! Just look at this caramel!
The recipe was slightly adjusted from the Jamie Oliver’s recipe. I must say that Jamie was a huge inspiration to me when I was much younger and I’m really enjoying watching his cooking videos today. He’s a big man with a big heart and I admire his talent and passion for cooking and encouragement to teach people eat healthier.
Well, coming back to the recipe…
I suggest you use green apples in the recipe. We already have the crunchy sugar on the top and some in the batter so let’s use the sour type apples for this pie. We’ll also add the zest of one lemon and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Trust me, this will work just perfectly with the other ingredients.
Let’s also add the classic spice mix or you may only use cinnamon if you don’t like cloves or nutmeg. And don’t forget the vanilla extract and salt, they will unfold the flavors and add greatly to the recipe.
My strong opinion is that bakery should not be plain, but have plenty of nuts, seeds or fruits in it. So we are adding walnuts in the pie which will add the lovely crunchiness and amazing flavor which is fantastic with apples and cinnamon.
Let’s go and make it!
